September 2015 saw the formation of the new Community Choir comprising of members of the church family and the local community.
To date approximately 19 enthusiastic people have met under the tutelage of a highly talented and VERY patient Choir Master, Callum Spiers, who has prepared us to sing, firstly, as part of the Carol Concert last December where we sang four songs, ‘Angels on High’, ‘Joy to the world’, ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’ and ‘I’m going to Sing Sing Sing’.
We then stepped out of our comfort zone and took part in The Alice Experience at St George’s Hall as The Queen of Hearts playing cards. We sang two songs ‘Painting Red Roses’ and ‘Free to be me’. We performed the songs at six performances on the evening of Wednesday 17th February. Although exhausted we were quite euphoric, and not a little stage struck, but all enjoyed the occasion and the opportunity for us to work with so many talented & gifted young people.
Our next performance was on Saturday 12th March at a Community Day of Fun at St John & St James Community Centre. Then on Sunday 26th June we sang at St John and St James church service to celebrate the Centre’s first birthday. We performed several songs, including one of our favourites ‘Hail Holy Queen’ from the film ‘Sister Act.’
More recently we had the pleasure of joining with the In Another Place Gospel Choir and St Andrews Community Choir to sing at concerts in St Luke’s Church, Crosby and Christ Church, Southport. This was an amazing experience and gave us the opportunity to perform to larger audiences.
One of our songs that we often sing is ‘You’ve got a friend’ and the consensus of all the choir is that we now have…19 new friends. We would love to have more friends, please come and join us any Wednesday night at 6 pm, you would be very welcome. Singing ability is not essential, we are there to make a joyful noise (and hopefully strike the right note now and again– for Callum’s sake). It is the best weekly £3 we have ever spent and if you arrive early the kettle is always on.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vcex_spacing][vc_single_image image=”54″][vcex_spacing][vc_single_image image=”56″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
